Kolovraty Has a New School: Smart Classrooms, Two Gymnasiums and a Children’s Atrium

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today in Kolovraty for the new elementary school on Měsíčková Street. The modern building, designed for more than 500 students, will open this September and provide facilities that have long been lacking in this part of Prague. The ceremony was attended by District Mayor Jonáš Zejfart, Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda, Councilor for Education Antonín Klecanda, Councilor for Finance Zdeněk Kovářík, First Deputy Mayor Jaromír Beránek, Sales Director of the general contractor SYNER, Miroslav Kot, and other guests.

In addition to regular classrooms, the new school offers several specialized classrooms—ranging from language labs with high acoustic standards, to science labs, to workshops and a cooking classroom with individual workstations and range hoods. The classrooms are equipped with controlled ventilation featuring CO₂ sensors that automatically adjust the ventilation system to ensure an adequate supply of fresh air. A modern and generously sized food service facility will cater to the needs of the young students. Heat pumps are installed on the roof of the building, and the structure is also prepared for the installation of solar panels.

The complex includes two multipurpose gyms, one of which will also be open to the public. The school will thus provide facilities not only for instruction but also for the leisure activities of local residents. “This project was a major undertaking for our district. That’s why I especially appreciate the constructive approach of everyone involved—the professionally coordinated team on the contractor’s side and the work of my colleagues at the municipal office, who deserve a big thank you for their dedication,” said Jonáš Zejfart, mayor of Kolovraty, at the grand opening. Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda added: “Today’s opening of the new school marks not only the completion of a major construction project, but above all the beginning of a new chapter. Starting in September, its hallways, classrooms, and playgrounds will belong to hundreds of children who will gain knowledge, make friends, and create lifelong memories here. I hope this school will be a place where students can learn, create, and grow, and that it will serve not only the students but the entire local community.”

Children can also use the outdoor atrium, accessible from the after-school program, and a convenient bike storage area that was built right next to the building. Fully accessible entry and operations are a given. “Our goal was to create a school that will stand the test of time, not only today but also in the future. We placed an emphasis on high-quality construction, modern technology, and long-term sustainability,” says Miroslav Kot, Commercial Director of SYNER. The new school has already passed its first stress test: the school administration organized a garden party for the public on the same day, combined with a tour of the new building, the construction of which was co-funded by the City of Prague. This gave parents, children, and local residents their first look inside the school even before classes began in September.
